Hastings, NE – The Hastings College volleyball team lost in straight sets to No. 5 Concordia on Saturday afternoon inside Lynn Farrell Arena on Senior Day.
The Lady Broncos struggled in set one hitting -.054 as CUNE ran away with the first set 25-11.
Hastings would keep the second set a bit closer going toe-to-toe with the Bulldogs through the first half of the set but a 5-0 run pushed the lead to six midway through as the Bulldogs held a 2-0 lead.
Hastings played much better in set three opening up a 19-16 lead on the strength of a 6-0 run when trailing 16-13. The run started with a solo block from Rachel Hefta followed by a double block from Hefta and Majesta Valasek. After an attack error by Camryn Opfer forced a Concordia timeout, Makenna Asher went to the middle as Hefta picked up the kill for the 17-16 lead. A Gabi Nordaker error followed by an Asher kill had things looking good for Hastings leading 19-16.
Concordia bounced right back scoring five of the next six points to go up 21-20. Following a service error by Kennedy VanScoy which tied things at 21, CUNE scored the final four points of the set to finish the sweep.

Hastings falls to 19-11 (8-7) on the year and will be back in action hitting the road to take on No. 12 College of Saint Mary Tuesday Nov. 1 in Omaha, NE. This game is pivotal as a win could boost Hastings up to the No. 6 seed for the Great Plains Athletic Conference tournament and a loss could land them at the No. 8 seed.
