Volleyball Drops Hard Fought Four Set Match to No. 18 CSM
Hastings, NE – The Hastings College volleyball team battled hard but came up a bit short against NAIA No. 18 College of Saint Mary falling in four sets 25-17, 18-25, 25-19, 25-23 on Wednesday night inside Lynn Farrell Arena.

Set one was really all Flames but set two, Hastings played some of its best volleyball of the year holding CSM to a .050 hitting percentage while hitting .263 to keep the match interesting.
The Lady Broncos fell behind quickly 4-0 in set two but battled back to tie things 15-15. After a Rachel Rosenquist attack error, CJ Harr picked up a rare kills followed by a Lauren Dirks kill. An Attack error by the Flames' Lexie Langley made it 19-15 in favor of HC.
Leading 19-17, Hastings took control of the set starting with one of Marlee Taylor's career high 20 kills. Following another Langley error, Dirks connected with Peyton Roper for a kill and then Dacey Sealey for a kill making it 23-17. Hastings closed the set out on a Taylor kill followed by a Langley attack error tying the match 1-1.
CSM took control of set three with a 6-0 run when the set was tied 12-12 en route to winning 25-19.
The Flames looked to have control of set four when they led 18-12 but Hastings showed some grit and trailing 21-16, the Lady Broncos rattled off six straight points. Kills from Majesta Valasek and Roper got things going and then Amani Monroe and Roper teamed up for the block forcing a CSM timeout with HC trailing 21-19.
After Monroe hammered one to the floor, Valasek and Monroe teamed up for back-to-back blocks to give Hastings the 22-21 lead. The Flames countered with kills from Kamryn Willman and Makenna Freeman plus a Valasek attack error setup match point as the Flames would pick up a kill from Rosenquist to end the match in four sets.
Taylor finished with her career high and match high 20 kills while hitting .356. Roper added 12 kills while hitting .182. Valasek added nine kills while Monroe finished with five. Dirks led the team with 42 assists and three service aces. Miriam Miller finished with a team high 21 digs while.
Hastings finished the match hitting .210 while CSM hit a bit better at .235.
Hastings is now 8-4 (0-2) on the year and will be back in action Saturday Sept. 10 hitting the road to take on Mount Marty with first serve set for 3:00 pm in Yankton, SD.
