Volleyball Cruises In Opener over Trinity Christian
West Palm Beach, FL – The Hastings College volleyball team opened up the 2022 campaign down in Florida taking part in the Chick-fil-a Classic where the Lady Broncos defeated Trinity Christian 25-14, 25-19, 25-16 on Thursday morning.

Hastings may have fallen behind 3-0 early in set one but quickly got back in the set will kills from Rachel Hefta and Peyton Roper followed by an attack error from Sarah Neighbors to make it 3-3.
Later in set one, Hastings would open up a 9-5 lead behind the strength of kills from Ava Lovitt and Amani Monroe followed by a Sophie Stevens service ace.
The Lady Trolls tried to hang around but Hastings went on a nice run following a service error from Trisha Noonan to make it 14-11. Majesta Valasek then hammered home one of her match high 11 kills followed by back-to-back attack errors by Trinity Christian to make it 17-11.
From there, Hastings cruised to a 25-14 set one victory.
Set two had a different feel to it as the Lady Broncos opened up leads of 12-7 and 17-13 only to have the Lady Trolls come all the way back to tie the set up.
The teams remained dead locked at 19-19 before Hastings would score the final six points of the set. Hefta began the run with a kill and then Monroe and Roper teamed up for back-to-back blocks.
Following a CJ Harr service ace that made it 23-19, TCC would call a timeout but to no avail as Roper and Monroe block the Neighbors attack and then Makenna Asher worked the ball to Monroe for the kill and the 2-0 lead.
The closest Trinity Christian would get after Hastings jumped out to a 5-0 lead would be two points as the Lady Broncos pulled away in set five 25-16.
Valasek finished the match with 11 kills while hitting .296. Roper had a huge game in her first collegiate contest with 10 kills while hitting .304 and five total blocks. Hefta added a career high eight kills while hitting .429, Monroe added four kills as she also hit .429 along with four total blocks.
Asher led the team with 27 assists as Miriam Miller led the team with nine digs and Harr led the team with a career high three service aces.
Hastings hit .269 while holding TCC to .048 while out blocking the Lady Trolls 13-to-4.
Hastings starts the season 1-0 and will be back in action later today taking on Columbia International with first serve set for 11:00 am.
