Volleyball Bounces Back with Sweep of William Woods
Ottawa, KS – The Hastings College volleyball team started day two of the Ottawa Tournament by defeating Williams Woods 25-19, 25-13, 25-14 on Saturday morning.
Ottawa, KS – The Hastings College volleyball team started day two of the Ottawa Tournament by defeating Williams Woods 25-19, 25-13, 25-14 on Saturday morning.
The first set was the lone set that was fairly close as Hastings held of to a 15-13 lead but made sure the Owls wouldn't have much hope going on a 7-1 run opening up a nice cushion. This run was powered by five Marlee Taylor kills as the set would end when Makenna Asher went outside to Majesta Valasek for the kill and the 25-19 set one victory.
In set two, Hastings utilized a big run when leading 13-10 by scoring the 12 of the final 15 points including six straight to end the set. Hastings picked up kills from Amani Monroe and Taylor while a CJ Harr service ace ended set two at 25-13.
In set three, WWU opened up a 6-2 lead but the Lady Broncos picked up multiple kills from Taylor along with a kill from Rachel Hefta which erased the Owl lead. Hastings would build a comfortable 18-14 lead before scoring the final seven points of the match which had two Taylor kills, two Kaitlin Thiebauth kills and a kill from Sophie Stevens to end things at 25-14.
Hastings finished the match hitting .278 while holding the Owls to just .054. Taylor led the way with 12 kills while hitting .357. Peyton Roper finished with seven kills while hitting .188 while Monroe was very efficient in the middles with five kills hitting .571.
Asher led the way with 34 assists and three aces while Miriam Miller added 18 digs.
Hastings improves to 12-5 (2-2) on the year.
