Offense Soars as Volleyball Sweeps Tabor
North Sioux City, IA – The Hastings College volleyball team picked up win number eight by defeating Tabor 25-19, 25-16, 25-18 on Saturday morning on day two of the Labor Day Classic.
North Sioux City, IA – The Hastings College volleyball team picked up win number eight by defeating Tabor 25-19, 25-16, 25-18 on Saturday morning on day two of the Labor Day Classic.
After falling behind early in set one, Hastings battled back to tie things up at 13 and then took the lead for the first time on Amani Monroe's solo block. Lauren Dirks then connected with Peyton Roper for a kill and then Dirks picked up a service ace to put the Lady Broncos up 16-13.
Later in the set leading 19-17, HC took control on a 4-0 run as Roper picked up another kill followed by a Dirks kill to lead 21-17. Miriam Miller's serve was too tough to handle for Kenna Brandes followed by yet another Roper kill to lead 23-17 en route to winning set one 25-19.
Hastings hit an astounding .414 in set one as the offense was clicking on all cylinders.
Set two stayed close as Hastings led the Bluejays 13-12 and then went on a 5-0 run started by a Makenna Asher kill. Then CJ Harr made life miserable for Naera Tschus and Brandes with four straight service aces pushing the lead to 18-12.
Hastings then put the set away with another 5-0 run highlighted by kills from Dacey Sealey, Brianna Lemke and Kaitlin Thiebauth. The Lady Broncos easily won set two 25-16.
Hastings left no doubt in set three opening up an 8-1 lead and never looked back winning set three 25-18 and the match 3-0. This run was highlighted by four Tabor attack errors and kills from Monroe, Sealey and Rachel Hefta.
Some big numbers came out of this match as Roper finished with nine kills while hitting a career high .467. Hefta added seven kills while hitting a career high .500 while Lemke also finished with seven kills while hitting .462. Monroe finished with five kills but hit an outstanding .714 which is also a career high.
For the match Hastings hit .303 while holding Tabor to .137. Miriam Miller led the team with 18 digs while Harr finished with a career high five service aces. Dirks led the way with 36 assists and two kills.
Hastings improves to 8-2 (0-1) on the year and will be back in action later in the day taking on (RV) Dakota State with first serve set for 5:00 pm in North Sioux City, IA.
