Volleyball Swept at No. 7 Northwestern
Orange City, IA – The Hastings College volleyball team was defeated in straight sets 25-15, 25-14, 25-23 on Saturday afternoon by No. 7 Northwestern.
Orange City, IA – The Hastings College volleyball team was defeated in straight sets 25-15, 25-14, 25-23 on Saturday afternoon by No. 7 Northwestern.
Hastings struggled out of the gate hitting -,029 in set one and then improved to .129 in set two. But Northwestern hit .216 in set one and followed that up by hitting .412 in set two taking a quick 2-0 lead in the match.
Set three had the Lady Broncos looking as though they were going to make things interesting as they did the night before against No. 12 Dordt.
Trailing 12-11, Hastings scored the next five points powered by two Raider attack errors, two Amani Monroe kills and a service ace from Dacey Sealey prompting a Northwestern timeout. The momentum stayed with Hastings and following a double block from Marlee Taylor and Monroe, Hastings led 23-19 and looked poised to take this match to another set.
Northwestern had other plans scoring the final six points of the set to win the match in straight sets.
The Lady Broncos finished the match by hitting just .078 while Northwestern hit .280.
Monroe led the way for Hastings hitting .211 with a team high eight kills. Brianna Lemke came off the bench to add seven kills while hitting .429. Makenna Asher led the team with 18 assists while Miriam Miller finished with a team high 17 digs. Ava Lovitt led the team with two service aces.
Hastings falls to 16-9 (5-5) on the year and will be back in action Wednesday Oct. 12 as Mount Marty comes to town with first serve set for 7:30 pm inside Lynn Farrell Arena.
