Hastings, NE – The Hastings College women's soccer team opened the Great Plains Athletic Conference tournament with a 3-0 victory over Morningside on an unusually warm but breezy night on Lloyd Wilson Field.
The Lady Broncos were able to top the previous performance against the Mustangs as the teams finished in a 1-1 tie out in Sioux City, IA.
Play was fairly even through the first 10 minutes of play but then it took a nice pass plus some resilience to record the first goal of the game.
Naomi Pedroza would get the ball on the right side and send a pass to Miley Prine where she was able to get the ball between the legs of the defender creating a one-on-one with the keeper as Prine beat the keeper to the far post for the 1-0 lead in the 13th minute.
The Mustangs were able to put some pressure on the Bronco back line but Sofie Jackson-Pedersen was up to the task making four straight saves to keep it a 1-0 game into the 41st minute.
This is where Hastings would have a corner kick where Megan Lampe sent the ball to the back post where Dekota Schubert headed it home for the 2-0 lead with her 19th goal of the season. Hastings carried that lead into the second half.
It wouldn't take long for the Lady Broncos to really get a strangle hold on this game when Schubert hit a frozen rope from 25 yards out that cleared Isabel Ter Weeme's outstretched hand and into the net for the 3-0 lead and her 20th goal of the season in the 54th minute. Her 20 goals on the season ties her for third in a season in school history. Her 50 points for the season moves her to 4th all-time for points in a season sitting one point behind Hall of Famer Jessica Carlson.
From there, Hastings really controlled the ball the rest of the way coming away with the 3-0 victory.
Hastings out shot the Mustangs 18-to-9 and 6-to-4 for the contest.
The Lady Broncos improve to 13-2-3 on the year and will be back in action Saturday Nov. 5 hitting the road to take on Briar Cliff with kickoff set for 1:00 pm in Sioux City, IA.
