Hastings, NE – The Hastings College women's soccer team battled with the top team in the Great Plains Athletic Conference coming away with the 1-1 draw on Saturday evening on Lloyd Wilson Field.
Both teams were very evenly matched and through the first 58 minutes, the game remained scoreless with neither team really showing better than the other.
But in the 60th minute, Mady Soumare collected a loose ball at the 18, worked her way into the box and hit a low shot off the post and into the goal for the 1-0 lead.
The Lady Broncos were now looking to answer needing some kind of result that was better than a loss.
That answer came from the Pedroza connection in the 73rd minute on a counter attack as Naomi Pedroza collected a ball and beat her defender down the far sideline. Once she beat her defender, Hastings had a three versus two and Naomi Pedroza sent a low cross to the back post where Sara Pedroza slid in knocking the ball into the net for the equalizer.
The teams would combine for just three shots on goal the rest of the way as both squads settled for the 1-1 tie.
Hastings held a slim 9-to-8 advantage in shots but BCU held the 5-to-3 advantage in shots on goal.
Sofie Jackson-Pedersen finished the game with four saves.
Hastings moves to 7-1-2 (2-1-2) on the year and will be back in action Wednesday Oct. 5 hitting the road to take on Midland with kickoff set for 5:00 pm in Fremont, NE.
