Fremont, NE – The Hastings College women's soccer team is struggling to get its offense going falling to Midland 2-1 on Wednesday night.
Early on the play was very evenly matched but it was the Warriors that were able to strike first when Mikayla Chase headed home the cross of the corner for the 1-0 lead in the 28th minute.
The Lady Broncos were able to control the ball for the majority of the half but were unable to put a shot past Hannah Tillison and headed into the break trailing 1-0.
The second half was really controlled by the Midland Warriors and it was another set play that made it 2-0 when Arianna Flores sent a ball into the box where Bailey Locano's shot cleared Sofie Jackson-Pedersen's head in the 72nd minute.
Hastings could feel the pressure build but couldn't generate a shot over the next six minutes until a hand ball was called in the box in the 79th minute setting up a penalty kick. Dekota Schubert stepped up and calmly put the ball in the bottom right corner of the goal to make it 2-1.
Hastings would manage just one more shot the rest of the way as Midland would upset Hastings 2-1.
HC held a 12-to-9 advantage in shots and a 7-to-4 advantage in shots on goal but in the end couldn't do enough to find the equalizer.
Hastings falls to 7-2-2 (2-2-2) on the year and will be back in action Saturday Oct. 8 as Mount Marty comes to town with kickoff set for 5:30 pm on Lloyd Wilson Field.
