Sioux City, IA – The Hastings College women's soccer team was looking to pick up win number three in the Great Plains Athletic Conference but ended up settling for the 1-1 tie with Morningside on Wednesday evening.
Hastings controlled the pace of play for most of the first half and it payed off in the 39th minute when Megan Lampe sent a ball past the keeper to the back post where Dulce Lopez put the ball away for the 1-0 lead.
But a minute later, the Mustangs took advantage of a cross that Sofie Jackson-Pedersen couldn't push away as the ball ended up in the net to tie things up 1-1.
The Lady Broncos had another chance in the second half as Lampe stepped up from nearly the same distance out where she scored her first career goal hitting another shot high on goal but this time it bounced off the cross bar and out as the game remained tied.
Hastings peppered the goal with 11 shots on goal but Megan Messersmith saved 10 of them to keep it a 1-1 game.
Hastings also out shot the Mustangs 14-to-7. Jackson-Pedersen finished with four saves.
Hastings is now 7-1-1 (2-1-1) on the year and will be back in action Saturday Oct. 1 as Briar Cliff comes to town with kickoff set for 5:30 pm on Lloyd Wilson Field.
