Hastings Upsets Dakota Wesleyan 63-60
Hastings - The Hastings College Women's basketball team picked up its biggest win of the season defeating NAIA No. 24 Dakota Wesleyan 63-60 on Sunday afternoon at Lynn Farrell Arena.
Dakota Wesleyan came in averaging better than 75 points per game but the Hastings defense slowed them up holding them to just 20 points in the first half and 15 points under its season average.
Head Coach Carrie Hofstetter was pleased with her teams defensive effort especially in the first half, "The first half I though we played great, defensively especially we took them out of everything they wanted to do holding them to just 20 points," Hofstetter said. "I thought our kids did a great job of executing the game plan especially defensively."
Hastings came out to prove a point right from the get go jumping out to a 10-2 lead and rode this for the entire first half right up to Brittney Wong's half court three-pointer giving the Broncos a 34-20 lead at the break.
Hastings was led by Cami Bruckman as she had a team high 20 points on 8-18 shooting. Chelsey Morten and Brittney Wong both finished in double figures as well for the Broncos.
Dakota Wesleyan was led by Kim Johnson as she finished with a game high 23 points on 9-13 from the floor.
With the win, Hastings improves to 10-11 (5-6) on the season and will be back in action as the Broncos will travel to Crete, NE to take on Doane Wednesday Jan. 16 with tip-off set for 6:00 p.m.
