Concordia Pulls Away From Women's Basketball in 2nd Half

The Lady Broncos hung tight with the Bulldogs through the first half and after CUNE took an early 5-2 lead, HC got a layup from Mariyah Avila followed by a three from Avila to make it 7-5 in favor of HC. Then Bailey Kissinger went inside to Rachel Goodon for the easy two.
Concordia came back with a bucket, but Kissinger countered with a jumper as Hastings now led 11-7 midway through the first quarter. The lead jumped to eight after a three from Kiernan Paulk and Lexi Kraft as HC was up 17-9.
CUNE would eventually come back to take the lead, but Hastings would not let them build a big lead as each time it got to five, Hastings came back with a bucket form Miriam Miller as HC trailed by just three 32-29 at halftime.
But it was the third quarter that opened things up for CUNE out scoring HC 28-12 as the Bulldogs shot 55 percent from the floor and 71 percent from behind the arc as Hastings was only able to connect on 21 percent of its shots as CUNE pulled away for the 82-55 win.
Avila led the way with 16 points as she was 6-of-18 from the floor while pulling down five rebounds. Kraft added 12 points on 4-of-9 shooting from downtown. Paulk and Miller each finished with eight points each.
Hastings finished the game shooting 30 percent (21-for-70) while Concordia shot 39 percent (28-for-71). CUNE would go on to make 15 threes compared to nine for HC. The rebounding edge went to Concordia at 54-to-44. Bench points favored the Bulldogs 36-to-13.
Hastings falls to 13-13 (9-9) on the year and will be back in action Saturday Feb. 24 hitting the road to take on Doane with tipoff set for 2:00 pm inside the Haddix Recreation and Athletic Center.
