Koehler's Career Night Leads Women's Basketball Past Flames

Omaha, NE – The Hastings College women's basketball team utilized a huge second half to run away from College of Saint Mary 84-62 on Wednesday night inside the Lied Fitness Center.
After falling behind 34-29 at halftime, it was all Hastings in the second half as Lexi Kraft got things started with a three. The teams then traded baskets until Tathis Arredondo got to the rack for a layup and then Jordan Koehler followed suit with a layup to tie the game 41-41.
After another defensive stop, Kiernan Paulk hit a wide open Arredondo as she buried the three as Hastings had its first lead since leading 2-0 to start the game. The Lady Broncos would hold on to that slim lead through the rest of the third and headed to the fourth quarter leading 52-48. HC outscored the Flames 23-14 in the third.
Hastings then stepped on the gas in the fourth as Mariyah Avila drained a three followed by another layup from Koehler to build the lead to 57-48 with 8:29 to go.
The lead finally got to double digits as Alyssa Baker got the layup to go plus the harm as she made the free throw to make it 60-48 with 7:54 remaining in the game.
After CSM brought the deficit back to 10, the Lady Broncos put the game on ice as Baker hit a layup followed by another layup from Koehler. After a CSM bucket, Alexis Folkers hit a wide open three from the wing to go up 71-56 with 4:29 to go. Hastings eventually grew the lead to as many as 24 before winning 84-62.
HC finished the game shooting 48.6 percent (35-for-72) while the Flames shot 42.9 percent (21-for-49). The 35 made field goals is the most of the 2023-24 campaign. A big story was the Flames in ability to knock down free throws going just 13-for-25 while Hastings was 7-for-10.
Rebounds were in favor of Hastings 39-to-33 and second chance points favored the Lady Broncos 20-to-2.
Koehler came off the bench and had a career night scoring a career high 20 points while hitting 10-of-15 shots and also pulled down a career high six rebounds. Arredondo finished with a career high 14 points as she was 6-for-7 from the floor and 2-for-3 from downtown. She also dished out five assists. Avila and Paulk each had 12 points. Every Lady Bronco that stepped on the floor scored in the win.
Hastings is now 4-6 (2-4) on the year and will be back in action Saturday Dec. 9 hitting the road to take on NAIA No. 2 Dordt with tipoff set for 2:00 pm in Sioux Center, IA.
