Morningside Utilizes Big 4th Quarter to Pull Away From Women's Basketball

Sioux City, IA – The Hastings College women's basketball team hung with Morningside until the Mustangs pulled away late for the 76-53 victory on Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Broncos stayed within striking distance throughout the first half, but Morningside finished the half on a 6-0 run to take a 34-27 lead at the break.
Hastings did get to within two points at 38-36 on a Miriam Miller layup but a quick 8-0 run put an end to the hopes of a comeback.
Mariyah Avila led the way for HC with 16 points as she was 5-for-15 from the floor while pulling down four boards and dishing out three assists. Kiernan Paulk also finished in double figures with 12 points, seven rebounds and four assists.
Hastings finished the game shooting just 32 percent (21-for-65) while Morningside shot 47 percent (32-for-68). The Mustangs were 7-for-17 from downtown while Hastings was just 4-for-24. The rebounding edge favored Morningside 46-to-38 but it was the bench points that made all the difference as the Mustangs outscored the Lady Broncos 42-to-12.
Hastings is now 12-12 (8-10) and will be back in action Wednesday Feb. 14 as Mount Marty comes to town with tipoff set for 6:00 pm inside Lynn Farrell Arena.
