Women's Basketball Settles for Season Split with Briar Cliff

The first half was a game of runs as HC jumped out to a 5-0 lead before BCU went on a 12-0 run. The Lady Broncos came back to within two only to see the Chargers go on a 8-0 run to lead 22-12 with 8:24 to go in the second quarter.
Hastings countered once again with their own run that was started with a Bailey Kissinger layup followed by a Jordan Koehler layup to make it 22-16. Alyssa Baker would get fouled and make both free throws and then picked up a layup as HC now trailed 22-20 with 3:42 to go in the second. Hastings eventually took the lead on a Rachel Goodon free throw as BCU finally ended the run with a Konnor Sudmann layup.
Hastings came right back as Tathis Arredondo was left alone in the corner as she drained the three and the Miriam Miller ended the half with two free throws as the Lady Broncos took a 28-24 lead into halftime. But Briar Cliff opened the third quarter on a 19-3 run to open up a 12 point lead but HC would battle back once again.
Kissinger would get two tough layups to go plus an and one on the second one as she made the free throw to make it 47-44 with 8:04 to go. But a quick 6-0 run by BCU put the game out of reach as Hastings lost 69-61.
Kissinger led the way with 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting while pulling down six boards, dishing out three assists and stealing the rock three times. Mariyah Avila, Miller and Goodon each finished with 10 points.
The Lady Broncos finished the game shooting 32.7 percent (17-for-52) while BCU shot 35 percent (25-for-71). HC did get to the line 29 times and made 22 of them while Briar Cliff was 11-for-19. Both teams finished with 48 rebounds. The big difference in the game was points off turnovers as the Chargers finished with 22 compared to just nine for Hastings.
Hastings is now 13-13 (9-11) on the year and will be back in action Wednesday Feb. 21 hitting the road to take on No. 7 Concordia with tipoff set for 6:00 pm inside Friedrich Arena in Seward, NE. The Lady Broncos are still tied for eighth place in the GPAC with Doane.
