Hastings Can't Quite Tame the Tigers in GPAC Action
Hastings, NE – The Hastings College women’s basketball team was looking for an upset as the Lady Broncos are fighting to get into the GPAC Tournament but couldn’t find a way in its 75-64 loss to (RV) Dakota Wesleyan on Friday night inside Lynn Farrell Arena.

Hastings, NE – The Hastings College women's basketball team was looking for an upset as the Lady Broncos are fighting to get into the GPAC Tournament but couldn't find a way in its 75-64 loss to (RV) Dakota Wesleyan on Friday night inside Lynn Farrell Arena.
Early on Hastings was down 22-15 but Alyssa Baker broke free in the lane for the layup to make it a five point game. DWU answered back with a jumper from Morgan Edelman. HC countered quickly as with a little inside outside game as Jordan Koehler connected with Mariyah Avila for three to make it 24-20 with 6:06 to go in the first half.
After a defensive stop, Avila found an open Lexi Kraft for three and then a free throw from Bailey Kissinger tied things at 24 with 5:18 left in the half.
DWU opened the lead up to eight at 33-25 but Hastings closed on a 5-0 run with a Kissinger layup and a three from Avila to trail 33-30 at halftime.
Hastings had a nice start to the second half and took the lead following a Kissinger layup and a Kiernan Paulk layup but the Tigers countered with a quick bucket to regain the lead. From there, DWU would grow the lead to as many as 14 and took the win by 11.
Kissinger had her best night with a career high 22 points as she was 6-for-10 from the floor and 9-for-11 from the line while just missing out on a double-double with nine rebounds. Avila also finished in double figures with 16 points.
Hastings finished the game shooting 41.5 percent (22-for-53) while the Tigers shot 45.8 percent (27-for-59). DWU won the rebounding battle 47-to-33 with 21 of them coming on the offensive end.
Hastings is now 10-11 (6-9) on the year and will be back in action Saturday Feb. 3 as Jamestown comes to town with tipoff set for 1:00 pm inside Lynn Farrell Arena.
