The Lady Broncos struggled to hold on to the ball throughout the contest, but it was the Chargers that went ice cold down the stretch that proved to be the difference in the game.
Throughout most of the third quarter, BCU was able to keep Hastings at arm's length bouncing from a six to nine-point lead and then Briar Cliff began to cool off as Hastings began to heat up. Free throws from Alexis Tapia, Miriam Miller and Bailey Kissinger made it 46-41 with 3:22 to go in the third. The lead grew back to nine on a Kennedy Benne and one, but Hastings broke the press as Kissinger found a wide-open Lexi Kraft for three. Then the teams traded buckets followed by a layup from Miller as Tapia blocked the Konnor Sudmann layup as HC trailed 51-50 heading to the fourth.
The Lady Broncos would take its first lead since the 2:55 mark of the second quarter when Kissinger hit another tough layup at the 9:26 mark of the fourth. Following a Charger turnover, Avila found herself wide open as she buried a corner three to put HC back on top 57-56 with 7:13 to play. Sudmann would later get a layup to fall as BCU clung to a 58-57 lead with under 4:00 to go.
After another empty possession from the Chargers, Kiernan Paulk found a wide-open Miller in the corner as she drained her second three of the game as HC was back on top 60-58 with 3:13 to go. Sudmann came back to tie it up, but Miller knocked down a jumper to put Hastings up 62-60 with 2:40 left to play.
The teams then traded empty possessions before Avila got into the lane but missed the layup, but Rachel Goodon was right there for the put back as Hastings had a bit of breathing room up 64-60 with 1:42 left to play. Benne missed a layup for HC and Kissinger returned the favor as she would make her layup as HC was now up six with 1:15 to go.
