Paulk Snags Career High 19 Boards as Women's Basketball Defeats Bethel
Hastings, NE – The Hastings College women’s basketball team took on a scrappy Bethel (KS) squad but it was Hastings’ depth that shined through in the 86-69 win on Friday evening inside Lynn Farrell Arena.

It was the Threshers that jumped out to an early 15-11 lead in the first quarter but it would be the Lady Broncos that took the one point lead into the second quarter after making 7-for-8 free throws down the stretch to take that lead.
Hastings then began the second quarter on a 9-0 run as Kiernan Paulk began things with a driving layup. Alexis Folkers picked up a layup of her own to make it 24-19 just a minute and a half into the quarter. Then Mariyah Avila drained a step back three followed by a layup to put Hastings up 29-19 before Bethel's Carley Robb ended the run with a layup.
Alyssa Baker then caught a quick hot hand hitting a driving layup and then draining a corner three to put HC up 34-21 with 5:07 to go in the half. The Threshers cut the deficit to 11 but Avila drained a mid-range jumper followed by a jumper in the lane from Alexis Tapia made it 38-23. Tathis Arredondo then hit a driving layup to give Hastings its largest lead of the game at 40-23 with 3:23 to go. Bethel closed the half on a 9-2 run as HC led by 10 at the break.
Hastings came out of the break with a perfect play opening up Paulk with a wide open three from the corner that she buried as Hastings was off to a nice start in the second half going up 13.
Bethel did manage to get the deficit to single digits two more times but, in the end, it was all Hastings as the Lady Broncos took the game by 17.
HC had five players finish in double figures with Paulk leading the way with 15 points. She did the majority of her damage at the line where she was 8-for-10. Avila addd 13 oints on 5-of-11 shooting while Arredondo, Baker and Jordan Koehler each finished with 10 points. Riley Clavel added 9 points in her first time playing since the 2021-22 season.
Hastings absolutely dominated the boards 52-to-27 with Kiernan Paulk pulling down a career high 19 boards to finish with her first career double-double.
Hastings finished the game shooting 43 percent (27-for-63) while the Threshers shot 44.3 percent (27-for-61). A big difference in this one was at the charity stripe as HC was 24-for-33 while Bethel was just 10-for-21.
Hastings is now 2-0 on the year and will be back in action Saturday Nov. 4 finishing up the Hastings Classic against Graceland with tipoff set for 3:00 pm inside Lynn Farrell Arena.
