Fast Start Lifts Men's Basketball Past Sterling
Hilsboro, KS - The Hastings College men's basketball team opened up a massive first half lead crusing past Sterling for the second time this season defeating the Warriors 89-62 on Saturday night as part of the Tabor Classic.
Leading 4-3, Kevin Harkins (JR/Omaha, NE) would score from the low block followed by a long ball from Trey Moore (SR/Omaha, NE). Bart Hiscock (FR/Bennington, NE) and Connor Musiel (JR/Lincoln, NE) went back-to-back with buckets pushing the early lead to 13-3 over Sterling.
Musiel would then find Hiscock following a turnover as the Bronco lead was now at 12.
Midway through the first half, back-to-back 3-pointers from Rich Williams (SR/Scottsbluff, NE) and Moore pushed the lead to 17 at 32-15. The Broncos would push the lead to as many as 30 points in the first half and 33 points before winning the game 89-62.
Moore led the way with 21 points on 7-of-13 shooting including 4-of-6 from behind the arc while dishing out six assists. Williams added 16 points off the bench along with Hiscock and Jake Hansen (JR/Omaha, NE) combining for 23 points.
Harkins finished with nine points and eight rebounds. HC finished with 51 rebounds compared to 36 for the Warriors.
Hastings improves to 9-8 (3-3) on the year and will be back in action Saturday Dec. 31 finishing up at the Tabor Classic against Tabor with tip-off set for 7:00 p.m. in Hilsboro, KS.
