Men's Basketball Runs Past Sterling
Hastings - The Hastings College men's basketball team got back into the win column crusing past Sterling 91-54 on Saturday afternoon at Lynn Farrell Arena.
Hastings was able to take control of this game early beginning when Rich Williams (SR/Scottsbluff, NE) buried a three-pointer to make it a 11-5 game and then Tyler Hedlund (JR/Albion, NE) connected in the paint to make it 13-5 early in the first.
On the Broncos ensuing possession, Alex Fahey (JR/Ord, NE) drained a three-pointer as the Bronco lead grew to double digits at 16-5 before the Warriors were able to stop the run.
Hastings continued to build on the lead as Zach Kitten (FR/Hastings, NE) score four straight points off of two free throws and a bucket and that was followed up by ar Rich Williams three-pointer to make it 25-9 midway through the first half.
That lead would balloon to 19 when Connor Musiel (JR/Lincoln, NE) connected from downtown on a fast break and then up too 21 points on another three-pointer, this time from Jake Hansen (JR/Omaha, NE) as Hastings led 35-14 with 6:30 to go first half.
The Broncos were able to grow the lead to as many as 38 before winning by 37.
Williams led the Broncos with 15 points while Kevin Harkins (JR/Omaha, NE), Musiel and Trey Moore (SR/Omaha, NE) each finished with 12 points. Moore also dished out nine assists and had three assists.
Harkins finished with a double double as he also pulled down 12 rebounds to go along with his 12 points.
Hastings finished the game shooting 53 percent from the field including 44 percent from behind the arc.
The Broncos are now 2-1 and will be back in action Tuesday Nov. 8 hitting the road to take on Bethel (Kan.) with tip-off set for 6:00 p.m. in North Newton, KS.
