Tigers Slip Past Men's Basketball 89-87
Hastings - The Hastings College men's basketball team was looking to pull off the upset over No. 10 Dakota Wesleyan but came up just short falling 89-87 on Saturday afternoon in Lynn Farrell Arena.
The Broncos held a 68-62 lead with 6:36 to go when Kevin Harkins (JR/Omaha, NE) connected from down low but DWU's Tate Martin answered with a 3-pointer followed by another Martin bucket to make it 68-67 with 5:48 remaining.
After DWU took a one point lead, Rich Williams (SR/Scottsbluff, NE) drained a 3-pointer to regain the lead 71-69 with 5:07 to go.
The Broncos and Tigers would go back-and-forth before Dakota Wesleyan opened up a six point lead at 88-82 but five straight points from Trey Moore (SR/Omaha, NE) would make it 88-87 with just 1.6 seconds to go.
Martin would make the first free throw but then missed the second intentionally as Hastings would be unable to get a shot off as DWU held on for the win.
Williams finished with a season high 25 points on 11-of-15 shooting while pulling down eight boards. Jake Hansen (JR/Omaha, NE) added 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting while Moore had 15 points, six rebounds and six assists.
Hastings is now 6-7 (3-3) on the year and will be back in action Thursday Dec. 15 as No. 15 York comes to town with tip-off set for 6:00 p.m. in Lynn Farrell Arena.
