Hastings, NE – The Hastings College women's soccer got back to its winning ways by defeating Morningside 4-2 on Wednesday night on Lloyd Wilson Field.
The Lady Broncos got off to a fast start when Miley Prine sent a long pass to the far side of the field finding a wide open Dulce Lopez as her shot found the back of the net for the 1-0 lead in the 9th minute.
Then things took a strange turn as Jackson Pedersen launched a goal kick that didn't clear the head of Roselynn Bosman as she deflected the shot over Pedersen and into the goal for the equalizer in the 34thminute.
One minute later, Bosman gave the Mustangs the lead when she was the first to get to a loose ball in the box hitting a shot that just crossed over the goal line before being cleared away as she was awarded the goal as Morningside now had the lead.
It didn't take long for Hastings to find an answer as Sofia Gomez-Garcia was taken down in the box setting up a penalty kick for Megan Lampe. Lampe blasted her shot into the top right corner to tie the game 2-2 in the 39th minute heading into halftime.
After Naomi Pedroza was taken down about 40 yards from goal, Lampe sent in a beautiful cross that Dekota Schubert headed home to give the lead right back to Hastings at 3-2 in the 49th minute.
The Lady Broncos continued to control the play in the second half and it would pay off again in the 69th minute when Prine sent a perfectly time through ball that put Pedroza in a one-on-one with the keeper. Pedroza easily beat Kyla Syverson to the far post to make it a 4-2 ball game.
That would be the last shot of the game as Hastings was able to run out the clock and pick up the much-needed victory.
Hastings would out shoot Morningside 15-to-12 including 12-to-4 in shots on goal.
Hastings is now 8-1-1 (3-1-1) on the year and will be back in action Wednesday Oct. 4 as Midland comes to town with kickoff set for 8:00 pm out on Lloyd Wilson Field.
