Marshall, MO – For the first time since 2018, the Hastings College women's soccer team is heading to the final site of the NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship by defeating Missouri Valley 4-1 on penalty kicks after the two teams played to a 1-1 draw on Saturday afternoon.
Early on the play was pretty even as both sides were able to get off shots but could not find the back of the net until the Vikings struck first in the 13th minute when Aldabo Alguero found Ashley Arribas for the 1-0 lead.
From here it was the Bronco back line, Jackson Pedersen and the crossbar that kept Hastings in the game through the rest of the first half and into the second half. MVU would hit the crossbar in the 35th minute and again in the 59th minute but the Vikings just couldn't find that second goal leaving the door open.
Following a foul on MVU, Megan Lampe sent a ball into the box where Dekota Schubert headed the ball past the keeper for the equalizer in the 73rd minute.
The game would end up in overtime where neither team was able to really threaten and the game would come down to penalty kicks.
The Lady Broncos would get things started as Schubert stepped up and buried her shot for the quick lead. MVU countered to tie things 1-1 as Carla Carmona connected from the spot. Lauryn Metz then stepped up and put Hastings back on top. MVU would then miss their next two shots while Pedersen made one save with Lampe burying her shot and then Dulce Lopez making hers as Hastings came away with the PK victory 4-1 over the Vikings.
Missouri Valley finished the game with 20 shots while HC ended with 10 shots. The Lady Broncos finished with five shots on goal compared to 12 for the Vikings. Pedersen finished with a season high 11 saves in the win.
Hastings improves to 16-2-3 on the year and will be back in action Monday Nov. 27 and will take on No. 4 Central Methodist at 4:00 pm down in Foley, AL.
