Crete, NE – The Hastings College women's soccer team brought home a 3-0 victory over Doane on Wednesday night to set up a critical matchup with Concordia on Saturday for the outright lead in the Great Plains Athletic Conference.
Doane did get a few early shots on Jackson Pedersen but Pedersen was up to the task and Hastings broke through in the 29th minute when Sara Pedroze hit a shot that the keeper saved but her sister Naomi Pedroza was there for the put back and the early 1-0 lead.
The Lady Broncos continued to keep the pressure up the rest of the half but could not come through holding a slim one goal lead at the break.
Hastings went on to make it 2-0 in the 74th minute when Dekota Schubert laid a ball back to Kailee Lunzer as she hit a perfect left footed shot over Grayce Southern outreached hands and into the net.
That lead carried into the final two minutes of play when Jesse Chartier dropped a pass back into the box to Sophia Lee as she drilled her shot into the back of the net to make it 3-0 as that would be the final.
Hastings finished the game with 16 total shots to just five for Doane while holding a 10-to-4 shots on goal advantage as well.
Pedersen finished the game with another clean sheet with her four saves.
Hastings is now 11-1-1 (6-1-1) which sets up a show down for number one in the GPAC as Concordia comes to town on Saturday Oct. 14 with kickoff set for 8:00 p.m. out on Lloyd Wilson Field.
