Marshall, MO – It was the kind of game this team has dreamed of after getting knocked out of the national tournament a year ago. The Hastings College women's soccer team put together a complete performance in its 3-0 upset of NAIA No. 13 Missouri Valley on Saturday.
The Lady Broncos sat back and tried to get a feel for what this Lady Viking offense could bring and through the first half, there wasn't much and it was the offense that took full advantage in the second half.
After the teams played a scoreless first half, the Pedroza sisters would connect after a great feed from Jackson Pederson when Naomi connected with Sara in the 48th minute for the 1-0 lead.
It didn't take long for Hastings to strike again when Dekota Schubert fed the ball to Julia Vilanova to make it 2-0 in the 51st minute.
A big story was the Hastings back line allowing a total of two shots against the 13th ranked team in the country which allowed the offense to keep the pressure off by continuing to be very efficient.
Naomi Pedroza would then put the game on ice in the 82nd minute when Shubert connected with her for the 3-0 lead.
The Lady Bronco back line gave up just the two shots on goal as Pedersen finished with two saves and the clean sheet.
Hastings went on to out shoot MVU 6-to-2.
Hastings is 1-0 on the year and will be back in action Wednesday Aug. 30 hitting the road to take on Bellevue with kickoff set for 8:00 pm in Bellevue, NE.
