Hastings, NE - The Hastings College women's soccer team wrapped up the regular season with a 4-2 victory over Harris-Stowe on a cold and brisk afternoon out on Lloyd Wilson Field.
The teams were really trying to figure out one another in the first half as the weather really played a factor and it would be the Hornets that struck first.
Annalena Vermeer would let off a shot that snuck inside the far post for the 1-0 lead in the 41st minute. The Lady Broncos would go into halftime trailing 1-0 but the wind would be at their back in the second half.
Hastings would take advantage of that wind when Jackson Pedersen sent a big boot that bounced past the defenders with Naomi Pedroza out pacing the defense, dribbled the ball past the keeper and put it away in the open goal for the equalizer in the 54th minute.
From there, Hastings really controlled the play as Dekota Schubert quickly sent a low cross to a wide open Pedroza as she had her second of the game in the 63rd minute to put HC up 2-1.
Less than a minute later, Miley Prine was chasing a loose ball behind the defense when the last defender fell down which allowed her to beat the keeper one-on-one to the far post to put Hastings up 3-1.
Hastings would add one more in the 87th minute when Schubert dropped a pass to a wide open Peyton Kvammen and she took the shot from 22-yards out as it eluded the keeper and into the net for her first career goal and it of course it came on senior night.
Harris-Stowe did add a penalty kick goal in the 88th minute to finish off the scoring at 4-2.
After a pretty even first half, Hastings would end up out shooting the Hornets 23-to-8 and 11-to-4 in shots on goal.
Hastings is now 15-1-2 (9-1-2) and will be back in action Thursday Nov. 2 as Dakota Wesleyan comes to town for the first round of the Great Plains Athletic Conference Tournament quarterfinal match-up set to begin at 7:00 pm out on Lloyd Wilson Field.
