Women's Soccer Advances to GPAC Semifinals; Schubert Sets School Record in Assists
Hastings, NE – The Hastings College women’s soccer team got off to a slow start but finished strong to defeat Dakota Wesleyan 3-0 in the quarterfinals of the Great Plains Athletic Conference tournament on Thursday night out on Lloyd Wilson Field.

The first half was really played in the defensive third of DWU but the Tigers did well to keep the Lady Broncos off the board. Hastings finished the half with 10 total shots but the game moved to halftime tied 0-0. Hastings' best chance to score was in the 39th minute when Dekota Schubert hit a shot that beat keeper Isabella Gregg only to see it bounce back into play off the post.
The game would not remain scoreless for long into the second half as Naomi Pedroza intercepted a pass and beat the keeper one-on-one for the easy open net goal for the 1-0 lead in the 47th minute.
From there, HC kept up the pressure as Miley Prine sent a long throw into the box where Schubert guided the ball to the corner of the six and the hit a laser to the top shelf for her 11th goal of the season and the 2-0 lead in the 52nd minute.
In the 73rd minute, Schubert returned the favor working the pass to the top of the 18 to Prine, then Prine cut inside and ripped a high shot past past Gregg and into the net for her fourth goal of the season as Hastings was now comfortably up 3-0.
This gave Head Coach Jade Ovendale the chance to get many other players into the game and save her starters for the semifinals.
Hastings outshot DWU 21-to-3 including 11-to-0 in shots on goal. The back line along with Jackson Pedersen recorded their 11th shutout of the season.
Shubert's assist gave her now 38 for her career and she is now the school career leader with 38 assists.
Hastings is now 16-1-2 on the year and will be back in action Tuesday Nov. 7 as Dordt comes to town for the GPAC semifinals with kickoff set for 7:00 pm out on Lloyd Wilson Field.
