A late change at keeper put Dominik Lang into the firing zone and was he ever up to the challenge as he single handedly kept the Lancers in the game with one great save after another.
He faced his first test in the 4th minute when Paul Obrusnik ripped a low shot but Lang came up with the kick save. Then it was David Panter's turn to test the keeper as his shot from the top of the 18 was knocked away in the 5th minute.
Ruben Bande then decided it was his turn as his shot from just outside the 18 was deflected where Lang went up and tipped the ball into the air and he came out of the goal to catch it to keep it 0-0 in the 8th minute.
In the 19th minute Obrusnik split a couple of defenders and hit a low shot towards the far post but Lang stretched out and pushed the shot wide. In the 20th minute Alessandro Urlati took his chance only to see Lang push his shot wide of the goal.
Then it seemed as if the Broncos would finally break through in the 35th minute when Rodrigo Braga absolutely peppered a shot from 25 yards out where Lang dove to his left and made yet another crazy good save and then hopped up and made a kick save on Nils Schaefer's rebound shot as he kept the game scoreless.
Things slowed down a bit until the 69th minute when Jackson Brown sent a low pass to Panter where he hit a low shot only to be turned back by another kick save by Lang.
The Lancers continued to sit back hoping for overtime and a shootout and as the game progressed it seemed that outcome may become reality.
In the 89th minute, Obrusnik broke free hitting a high shot but was again turned away as Lang pushed the shot over the goal and after the corner, the ball would bounce out to Urlati but his laser of a shot would be pushed just over the goal as we headed to overtime.
The Broncos had in the back of their minds the game from 2019 when the Lancers pushed Hastings to the brink as well and needed a goal in the 107th minute to escape that game for a win. Hastings was hoping for that to happen here but even if they did get a goal, the new rule states you have to play both overtime periods so the lights came on and overtime began.
Hastings had one great shot in the first overtime when Joeri Kersten crushed a shot from the top of the 18 but Lang lunged to his left and pushed the shot wide in the 96th minute.
The game headed to the second overtime and the Broncos had another chance when Obrusnik worked his way into the box down the left side hitting a low shot only to be turned away by Lang in the 106th minute.
And just when it seemed like the game was headed into a shootout, Brown launched a free kick into the box where Rubio hit a solid header but was turned away but the rebound came right back to him where it appeared he hit a half bicycle kick putting the shot into the far side net and the 1-0 lead in the 108th minute.
It took 33 shots and 14 shots on goal to finally get one past Lang and no doubt you have to give him a ton of credit as he played one heck of a game. But Hastings found a way to prevail and will now move onto the semifinals.
Hastings improves to 14-1-1 and will be back in action Tuesday Nov. 8 and will host Midland with kickoff set for 7:00 pm on Lloyd Wilson Field.
