Fremont, NE – It was the dog fight the Hastings College men's soccer team really wasn't expecting but Midland put up one heck of a fight but the Broncos were able to prevail 1-0 on Wednesday night.
The first half, Hastings was unable to put up much of a fight on offense getting off just two shots while Midland had four. The major difference in the first half was when Tomas Pereira was sent off with a straight red card.
In the second half, the Warriors really sat back on defense and played for the tie while it seemed as though the Broncos were not going to be able to breakthrough with a goal.
Hastings won picked up eight shots in the second half compared to five for the Warriors but the difference would come when a ball bounced off the arm in the box setting up a penalty kick. Tyler Mase stepped up four his fourth attempts of the season as he was currently 2-for-3. The keeper guessed right but couldn't make the save as Mase made it 1-0 in the 73rd minute.
Midland did what it could but really never put any pressure on Brendan Dally as the Broncos escaped from Fremont with the victory.
Dally finished the game with six saves and his third shutout of the year and his 10th shutout of his career.
Hastings improves to 8-1 (6-0) on the year and will be back in action Saturday Oct. 8 as Mount Marty comes to town with kickoff set for 8:00 pm on Lloyd Wilson Field.
