Seward, NE – The Hastings College men's soccer team held on for dear life in its 1-1 draw with Concordia on Saturday night.
The first half was very evenly matched between the Broncos and the Bulldogs with the one glaring statistic favoring Concordia was four corner kicks to none for Hastings.
But late in the first half, Ross Murphy slipped a pass to David Panter and he quickly one timed the shot past Gabriel Mendoza for the 1-0 lead in the 43rd minute.
And then something happened that Hastings wasn't expecting, the Bulldogs to dominate the second half. This would also bring out the best in Brendan Dally as he was tested all the way until the final buzzer.
In the 61st minute, Martine Herrera ripped a shot from 14 yards out only to have Dally get his hands on the shot knocking it over the goal to keep it a 1-0 game.
In the 66th minute following a foul outside the box, the ball was sent into the box, through the hands of Dally where Max Bisinger put his shot into an open net to tie the game 1-1. This is where Concordia really turned up the pressure and Dally would more than make up for his error.
In the 70th minute, Matt Schultz got behind the Bronco defense but his header was turned away by Dally as he was in perfect position to make the save.
In the 85th minute, a shot was taken by Adrian Wambua which looked to be headed into the goal but Dally along with a Bronco defender found a way to keep that ball from entering the goal as the game remained 1-1. Hastings did pick up three more shots down the stretch only to see Mendoza save them all as the game finished in a 1-1 tie.
The Bulldogs out shot the Broncos 18-to-9 and 10-to-5 in shots on goal. Dally finished with nine saves as Hastings is now just one win away from clinching its first Great Plains Athletic Conference regular season championship since 2018.
Hastings is now 10-1-1 (8-0-1) on the year and will be back in action Saturday Oct. 22 as Northwestern comes to town with kickoff set for 3:00 pm on Lloyd Wilson Field.
