Hastings, NE – The Hastings College men's soccer team remained undefeated in Great Plains Athletic Conference action with its 5-0 victory over Mount Marty on Saturday night on Lloyd Wilson Field.
Early on, the teams were trying to get a feel for one another as through the first 16 minutes there was just one shot taken.
But in the 17th minute, Jackson Brown sent a perfect long ball where David Panter ripped his shot past Jorge Augero for the 1-0 lead and his 11th goal of the season.
Then in the 22nd minute, Brown would force a turnover deep in Lancer territory getting the ball to Panter. From there he flicked a cross off a defender where Paul Obrusnik put away the shot to make it 2-0 with his five goal of the year.
The Broncos held that lead unto the 58th minute when Mount Marty was called for a foul just outside the 18 and this is where Brown connected on a perfect free kick giving Augero absolutely no shot to save it bending the ball around the wall and into the goal to make it 3-0 with his first goal of the season.
Things really began to get chippy at this point as the fouls really began to rack up especially for the Lancers. MMU finished the game with 20 fouls compared to 11 for Hastings. Mount Marty also finished with three yellow cards compared to none for the Broncos.
In the 63rd minute, Hastings worked the ball along the far side as Lukas Goetz took the ball near the end line send a pass back to Ryan Lewis as his shot from 14 yards out eluded Augero to make it 4-0 with his second goal of the year.
The Broncos then rounded out the scoring in the 73rd minute when Lewis sent in the corner kick where Tyler Mase headed home the goal for his fifth of the season and the 5-0 victory.
HC was very efficient with its shot taking as the Broncos got off just 12 shots with eight of them being on frame. MMU finished with five shots and two of them being on frame.
The Broncos improve to 9-1 (7-0) on the year and will be back in action Wednesday Oct. 12 as Doane comes to town with kickoff set for 8:00 pm on Lloyd Wilson Field.
