Corrigan Nets Career High as Men's Basketball Runs Past Saints

Aberdeen, SD – The Hastings College men's basketball team used a big run midway through the game to defeat Presentation 79-57 on Thursday afternoon.
It was a breakout game for Grady Corrigan as he scored the game first four points on jumpers. Hastings would build out a quick 13-3 lead when Ashton Valentine buried a three as the Saints called a timeout.
Presentation would fall behind by 13 when Corrigan drained a three but would climb right back into the contest. PC would get to within four points on two different occasions with the latest coming when Travez Nyx hit on a jumper to make it 28-24 with 3:08 left in the first half. The Broncos would then begin a nice run to end the half as Zach Rust hit a jumper and a free throw. Then Reggie Thomas hit a jumper of his own as the lead was back up to nine at 33-24 with 2:24 left in the first half.
After getting another stop on the defensive end, Corrigan connected again from mid-range to make it 35-24. Now leading 37-26, Corrigan would attack the rim getting the layup to go plus the foul and after he made the free throw, Hastings now led 40-26 with :38 to go in the half. Hastings would take a 40-28 lead into the break.
The run would continue into the second half after Jackson Backer made it a 10 point ball game, Thomas came right back hitting one of his two threes on the game to make it 43-30. After trading possessions, Corrigan was left open for three as he drained another one to make it 46-30. Danilo Matovic would then hit a driving layup followed by a nice jumper for Evan Kingston as the lead was now at 20 as Hastings cruised from there. The lead got as big as 30 points before Todd Raridon called off the dogs before winning by 22.
Thomas led the way with a game high 23 points on 7-for-15 shooting including a perfect 7-for-7 from the line. He also pulled down five boards. Corrigan finished with a career high 22 points on 9-for-13 shooting while coming away with six rebounds. Rust added 10 points while Matovic finished with eight. Jack Heiss saw his first collegiate playing time scoring six points off the bench while pulling down six boards which of course are both career highs for him.
The Broncos shot 56.6 percent (30-for-53) from the floor and 50 percent (7-for-14) from the line. The Saints shot just 41.8 percent (23-for-55) and just 29.2 percent (7-for-24) from downtown. Hastings out rebounded Presentation 35-to-22. The Broncos led the game from start to finish.
Hastings moves to 12-3 (5-2) on the year and will be back in action Friday Jan. 6 hitting the road to take on Dordt with tipoff set for 7:00 pm in Sioux Center, IA.
