Hastings, NE – The Hastings College men's basketball team battled but just couldn't find enough offense in its 71-61 defeat at the hands of Dordt on Saturday afternoon inside Lynn Farrell Arena.
Trailing 14-8 in the first half, Grady Corrigan connected from downtown followed by a layup from Reggie Thomas to make it 14-13 with 11:38 to go in the half. The Broncos then took the lead when Corrigan hit a layup. The Defenders answered with a Jacob Vis layup but Corrigan worked around a pic hitting a mid-range jumper to make it 17-16. Vis came right back hitting a jumper and then Reggie Thomas connected from 15 feet out to regain the lead at 19-18.
Then the Broncos went ice cold from the field as Dordt went on a 12-0 run to open up a 30-19 lead and really never looked back. Hastings did get as close as seven in the second half but that was it before falling 71-61.
Thomas led the way with 18 points on 8-for-22 shooting while pulling down six boards and dishing out four assists. Corrigan added 13 points on 5-for-17 shooting. Danilo Matovic finished with 12 points on 6-of-12 shooting.
Hastings shot 37 percent (27-for-73) from the floor while Dordt shot a blistering 54.9 percent (28-for-51). The Broncos did win the rebounding game 37-to-34 and only turned the ball over eight times compared to 11 for the Defenders. Points in the paint were also even at 30 apiece.
Hastings falls to 13-9 (6-8) on the year and will be back in action Wednesday Feb. 1 as Doane comes to town with tipoff set for 7:45 pm inside Lynn Farrell Arena.
