Volleyball Has Season End at Concordia
Seward, NE - A win and your in was what the Hastings College volleyball team was needing in its final two matches of the season but couldn't find the magic as its season came to a close Tuesday night falling in straight sets to Concordia (16-25, 21-25, 21-25).
Set one was all Bulldogs but set two had Hastings in a position to make things interesting. Leading 10-8, HC put together an impressive 5-0 run as it was started by a CUNE attack erro rby Erica Heinzerling. Jaisee Stinson (JR/Omaha, NE) then connected with Acelyn Klein (FR/Curtis, NE) for the kill and then Makenna Asher (SO/Hastings, NE) and Amani Monroe (SR/Colorado Springs, CO) teamed up for the double block to make it 13-9.
Then the unusual connection of Miriam Miller (FR/Lincoln, NE) finding Asher for the kill followed by an attack error by Carly Rodaway forced the Bulldogs to call a timeout as the Lady Broncos now led 15-9.
Just two points later, a nightmare came down on Hastings as Concordia scored 10 straight points to take control of set two at 21-16 en route to winning 25-21.
Set three was tight throughout as HC trailed 20-18 but a CUNE service error by Bree Burtwistle made it 20-19 and then Grace Branson (FR/Lawrence, KS) tied things up with a kill. But those pesky Bulldogs ran off three straight points to again take control of the set and the match.
Miller, Asher and Branson all finished with seven kills while Dacey Sealey (FR/Hastings, NE) and Monroe finished with five kills. Camryn Opfer led the way for CUNE with 14 kills.
For the match Hastings hit just .136 compared to .285 for Concordia.
Ava Lovitt (FR/Beatrice, NE) led Hastings with 15 digs while Asher led the way with 16 assists and two service aces. Branson finished with three block assists.
HC has its season end at 14-14 (5-11).
