Volleyball Loses Five Set Thriller to No. 23 CSM
Omaha, NE - The Hastings College volleyball team took to the floor against No. 23 College of Saint Mary falling to the Flames 18-25, 25-19, 22-25, 25-23, 12-15 on Wednesday night in Great Plains Athletic Conference action.
After splitting the first two sets, Hastings jumped out to a 10-6 lead in set three but the Flames made sure to close the gap as the set remained tight. A slight 5-2 run gave College of Saint Mary an 18-16 lead and the teams would then trade points until it was 23-22. A service error followed by a Rachel Rosenquist kill gave the Flames the set three victory.
For most of set four neither team were really able to gain an edge as CSM held a 21-19 lead but back-to-back Miriam Miller (FR/Lincoln, NE) kills tied the match 21-21. Later, Emily Krolikowski (SR/Cairo, NE) picked up a kill to give Hastings the 23-22 lead but CSM picked up a kill from Dani Prusha to tie things up at 23-23.
Hastings went right back to Krolikowski for the kill to set up set point. Then Makenna Asher (SO/Hastings, NE) and Sydney Mullin (SR/North Platte, NE) teamed up for the block as Hastings forced a set five.
Hastings was off to a great start in set five leading 6-4 following a kill from Miller. But the Flames ran off three straight points before a double block from Asher and Amani Monroe (SR/Colorado Springs, CO) tied things up 8-8.
CSM went on another little run to go up 11-8 and were unable to gain the advantage again falling 15-12.
Mullin and Krolikowski each finished with a match high 16 kills as Mulling hit .325 for the match. Grace Branson (FR/Lawrence, KS) collected nine kills while hitting .500. Monroe added eight kills while Miller finished with seven. Asher had six kills to go along with her 28 assists and 14 digs. Jaisee Stinson (JR/Omaha, NE) finished with 25 assists and 11 digs.
CSM hit .226 for the match while HC hit .195.
