No. 1 Jamestown Upends Hastings
Jamestown, ND - The Hastings College volleyball team was swept by NAIA No. 1 Jamestown 16-25, 8-25, 14-25 on Saturday.
It was a tough outing for the Lady Broncos hitting in the negative at -.039 while the Jimmies hit .323.
HC trailed 9-6 in set one where the Jimmies would create a bit more seperation with a quick 3-0 run to lead 12-6. Hastings countered with kills from Makenna Asher (SO/Hastings, NE) and Amani Monroe (SR/Colorado Springs, CO) to make it 12-8 but that would be as close as HC would get. The Jimmies eventually won the set 25-16.
Set two was one to forget as Jamestown opened up with a 19-2 run en route to the 25-8 set two win. Hastings was held to a -.250 hitting percentage in set two while UJ hit .304.
The Jimmies then jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead in set three as HC would only be able to get back to within four points at 6-2 before falling 25-14.
Miriam Miller (FR/Lincoln, NE) led Hastings with six kills but hit just -.067. Sydney Mullin (SR/North Platte, NE) finished with five kill while Monroe added four kills.
Asher finished with 10 assists while Ireland Currey (SR/Lincoln, NE) led HC with 15 digs.
Hastings is now 14-10 (5-7) on the year and will be back in action Friday Oct. 22 as NAIA No. 16 Dordt comes to town with first serve set for 7:30 pm inside Lynn Farrell Arena.
