Volleyball Upended at Mount Marty
Yankton, SD - The Hastings College volleyball team lost to Mount Marty 17-25, 25-19, 19-25, 25-18, 12-15 on Friday night inside Cimpl Arena.
After defeating No. 10 College of Saint Mary this past Wednesday, the Lady Broncos couldn't find the momentum it needed to avoid the upset.
Set three seemed to be a turning point with the match tied 1-1 with Hastings holding a slim lead at 16-14 when MMU went on a 9-2 run to take control of the set and the 2-1 lead.
HC bounced back taking control of set four from the start jumping out to a quick 6-1 lead behind two kills from Haylee Sandman (FR/Wauneta, NE) and a kill from Dacey Sealey (FR/Hastings, NE). The Lancers did cut the lead down to one but Hastings used a late 6-2 run to make sure there would be a set five.
But, it seemed to be MMU's night picking off Hastings 15-12 in set five to earn its first conference win of the season.
Hastings finished the match hitting .206 while Mount Marty hit .199. Hastings was led by Grace Branson (FR/Lawrence, KS) as she finished with 10 kills while hitting .471. Sandman added eight kills while hitting .316 as Sealey finished with nine kills while she hit .259.
Gabby Ruth led all attackers with 20 kills but hit just .161 for the match.
Makenna Asher (SO/Hastings, NE) finshed with 25 assists while Jaisee Stinson (JR/Omaha, NE) ended with 18. Miriam Miller (FR/Lincoln, NE) led the team with 19 digs.
Hastings falls to 12-8 (3-5) on the year and will be back in action Wedneday Oct. 6 as No. 3 Midland comes to town with first serve set for 7:30 pm inside Lynn Farrell Arena.
