Volleyball Makes Quick Work of Mount Marty.
Hastings, NE - The Hastings College volleyball team didn't have too much trouble in its sweep of Mount Marty winning 25-16, 25-13, 25-10 on Saturday afternoon inside Lynn Farrell arena.
Set one had a back-and-forth feel to it as the teams battled to an 11-11 tie. This was when Hastings turned things up a notch beginning with an Emily Krolikowski (SR/Cairo, NE) kill. Krolikowski hammered home another kill to make it 13-11 and then Sydney Mullin (SR/North Platte, NE) made it 14-11 with a kill. Makenna Asher (SO/Hastings, NE) went right back to Krolikowski for another kill and the 15-11 lead.
The Lady Broncos then put the set away beginning with a Miriam Miller (FR/Lincoln, NE) and Amani Monroe (SR/Colorado Springs, CO) double block followed by a kill from Grace Branson (FR/Lawrence, KS) to make it 21-13. Miller and Monroe picked up another double block followed by another Branson kill to make it 23-13 as Hastings won set one 25-16.
Leading 9-7 in set two, Hastings put together a 10-2 run that started with a Ally DeLange service error. Then Jaisee Stinson (JR/Omaha, NE) connected with Asher for back-to-back kills to make it 11-7. After a hitting error by Alexis Kirkman, Stinson then went to the other side with Krolikowski for another kill and the 14-7 lead. The Lancers took their second timeout but that didn't stop HC as Ireland Currey (SR/Lincoln, NE) picked up a service ace.
After a couple of points for MMU, Stinson found Mullin in the middle for a kill followed by a Krolikowski solo block to make it 17-9. Mullin then picked up another kill followed by an attack error by MMU's Allison Jones to make it 19-9. Hastings then cruised to the 25-13 set two win.
Then the match really got out of hand as Krolikowski started set three with three straight kills followed by a Mullin block and an Asher kill as Hastings opened up a 5-0 lead. Following a service error on Hastings, the Lady Broncos ran off 12 straight points to lead 17-1 and then took the third set 25-10
Hastings was led by Krolikowski as she finished with 14 kills while hitting .323. Mullin finished with nine kills while hitting .368 to go along with four total blocks. Branson finished with seven kills while hitting .500 for the match.
Hastings finished the match hitting .294 while holding the Lancers to -.009 hitting percentage.
Miller led the team wtih 15 digs while Asher led the way with 21 assists.
Hastings improves to 11-4 (2-1) on the year and will be back in action Wednesday Sept. 15 hitting the road to take on No. 3 Midland with first serve set for 7:30 pm in Fremont, NE.
