Volleyball Falls to No. 14 Northwestern on Senior Day
Hastings, NE - The Hastings College volleyball team fell to No. 14 Northwestern 15-25, 25-27, 12-25 on Saturday afternoon inside Lynn Farrell Arena.
After dropping set one 25-15, the Lady Broncos were looking to get some momentum in set two and looked to get it.
Trailing 20-16, Jaisee Stinson (JR/Omaha, NE) found Miriam Miller (FR/Lincoln, NE) for the kill and then Makenna Asher (SO/Hastings, NE) picked up back-to-back kills to make it 20-19. The Raiders picked up a kill from Alysen Dexter but a Stinson to Miller connection made it 21-20. Asher then hit a short serve that hit the deck to tie things up 21-21 and Northwestern took a timeout.
Out of the timeout Asher picked up another ace and when Miller hammered home another kill to make it 23-21, it seemed HC was going to even things up. Northwestern came out and picked up a kill from Bekah Horstman and then a double block from Horstman and Olivia Schaub tied things at 23.
A service ace from Jadeyn Schutt gave set point to the Raiders but Hastings countered when Asher found Sydney Mullin (SR/North Platte, NE) for the kill and then Amani Monroe (SR/Colorado Springs, CO) and Mullin teamed up for a double block to give Hastings set point at 25-24. But it wasn't meant to be as the Raiders ran off the next three points to take set two 27-25.
After that it was all Northwestern as HC dropeed set three 25-12.
Hastings hit just .084 while the Raiders hit .357 for the match. Miller led the team with eight kills hitting .222 while Mullin added seven kills and had a hand in five total blocks. Not very often will you have a defensive specialist come up with two kills and hit .667 like Ava Lovitt (FR/Beatrice, NE) did. She also led the team with 11 digs. Dexter led the Raiders with 13 kills while hitting .296.
Hastings falls to 14-12 (5-9) on the year and will be back in action Saturdayday Oct. 30 hitting the road to take on Morningside with first serve set for 3:00 pm in Sioux City, IA.
