Hastings- The No. 3 ranked Hastings College men's soccer team continued its undefeated season with yet another nailbiter as the Broncos beat No. 22 Midland (NE) 3-1 on Tuesday night at Lloyd Wilson Field.
With the two teams on top of the Great Plains Athletic Conference standings, the Broncos (12-0, 4-0 GPAC) struck first as Daniel Whitehall (SO/Warrington, England) found Marc Tautz (JR/Limburg, Germany) in the 45th minute to give the Broncos a 1-0 lead over the Warriors (9-2-1, 2-1) going into halftime.
In the second half, the Warriors' Mattia Pace connected with Lee Bishop for the 1-1 equalizer in the 58th minute. The Broncos' Whitehall scored both goals for HC in the 73rd minute, assisted by Lucas Venegas (JR/Grand Island, NE) and in the 78th minute, that time assisted by Tautz.
The game was characterized by the physicality of both teams, as both teams amassed 30 fouls and four yellow cards, three to Hastings and one to Midland.
The Broncos play again Saturday night against Morningside (IA) College as part of Homecoming night. Kickoff is set to start at 7:30 p.m.
