Volleyball Sweeps Dordt behind Valasek's 23 Kills
Hastings, NE – The Hastings College volleyball team got a much-needed win on Friday night by sweeping Dordt 25-18, 25-18, 25-13 Inside Lynn Farrell Arena.

The Lady Broncos got off to a fast start as Grace Branson got things going with a kill and then Makenna Asher went back to the middle but this time it was Kaitlin Thiebauth hammering home the kill. Then Asher connected with Majesta Valasek on the outside for the first of her match high 23 kills.
After Dordt got on the board, Valasek picked up three kills plus an attack error by the Defenders' Bryleigh Schweer forcing a timeout by Dordt as Hastings quickly opened up a 7-1 lead.
Dordt would make a run and would get to within one at 16-15 but Asher went back out to Valasek for a kill and then Valasek picked up an ace. Asher then took things into her hands picking up a kill followed by another service ace from Valasek as HC now led 20-15 and would take set one 25-18.
Set two saw the Defenders get off to a fast start opening up a quick 4-0 lead but Hastings would make sure that deficit would not get any larger as Valasek ended the run with another kill.
Dordt would hold a 12-9 when Hastings would grab control of set two by going on a 10-0 run highlighted by kills from Valasek, Madison Glenn, Nicole Haywood and a block from Branson and Valasek as Hastings opened up a 19-12 lead en route to winning set two 25-18.
It didn't take long for the Lady Broncos to put the Defenders away opening up a huge 12-1 lead in set three as Valasek picked up seven kills on the run as HC ran away with set three 25-13.
To go along with Valasek's 23 kills, she also hit .500 and finished with four service aces. Thiebauth added nine kills while hitting and astounding .750. Branson added six kills while hitting .308.
Asher led the team with 41 assists with Miriam Miller finishing with 19 digs.
Hastings hit .337 for the match while holding Dordt to just .121.
Hastings is now 7-11 (2-7) on the year and will be back in action Saturday Oct. 7 as No. 2 Northwestern comes to town with first serve set for 3:00 pm inside Lynn Farrell Arena.
