Hastings, NE – The Hastings College volleyball team got off to a fast start but couldn't close the door as Mount Marty came all the way back to upset the Lady Broncos 25-14, 25-21, 15-25, 20-25, 9-15 on Saturday afternoon inside Lynn Farrell Arena.
Hastings took control of set one thanks to a kill from Makenna Asher, two Lancer errors and a Miriam Miller service ace to take a 10-6 lead. From there it was all Hastings as some new faces helped along the way with Arianna Gonzalez picking up a few kills and a block assist while Madison Glenn picked up her first collegiate kill en route to the 25-14 set one victory.
Set two was a bit tighter as the set was tied 10-10 when Hastings would go on a nice 5-1 run highlighted by kills from Gonzalez and Glenn forcing a Mount Marty timeout. The Lancers would only get to within three the rest of the way as Hastings grabbed the 2-0 lead.
Then, just like against College of Saint Mary, the momentum swung over to the Lancers as they easily won set three 25-15 and really never looked by winning the next two sets fairly easily.
Glenn led the way with a career high 12 kills while hitting .162. Gonzalez and Kaitlin Thiebauth each finished with 11 kills while Asher added eight kills to go along with her 35 assists. Miriam Miller led the back line with 26 digs.
Hastings falls to 5-5 (0-3) on the year and will be back in action Wednesday Sept. 13 hitting the road to take on Midland with first serve set for 7:30 pm in Fremont, NE.
