Volleyball Dominates Doane Behind Career Night From Glenn
Hastings, NE – The Hastings College volleyball team picked up conference win No. 1 by dominating Doane 25-17, 25-11, 25-17 on Wednesday night inside Lynn Farrell Arena.

The Tigers got off to a solid start as Hastings welcomed back Sophie Stevens and Majesta Valasek. Doane held a slim 14-12 lead but Hastings would end set one on a 13-3 run.
Hastings got things going as Makenna Asher went outside to Valasek for the kill and then worked the middle to Kaitlin Thiebauth to tie things at 14. Stevens then made her presence felt with an ace as the Lady Broncos took its first lead of the contest.
After Doane tied it up, Hastings picked up kills from Thiebauth, Grace Branson and true freshman Madison Glenn as she had herself a night to remember. Eventually Asher worked back to the middle as Branson picked up the final kill of set one as HC won 25-17.
Then the Lady Broncos were hitting on all cylinders in set two by hitting .419 and it didn't take long to open up a huge lead.
After Doane took a brief 2-1 lead, Asher went to the right side where Nicole Haywood hammered home the kill. Then Asher went back to the middle as Thiebauth picked up the kill to make it 3-2. Stevens then picked up her second ace of the day and the route was on. Asher then picked up a kill followed by back-to-back kills from Valasek to make it 7-2. Then kills from Thiebauth and Valasek pushed the lead to 9-2 as Hastings was on its with to an easy 25-11 win.
Set three was a bit tighter but a 5-0 run by Hastings when the set was tied 13-13 put the game on ice. Glenn picked up two kills while Branson added another as Hastings eventually ran away with set three 25-17 en route to the sweep.
Glenn certainly had herself a career night with a career high 11 kills while hitting a career high .524 without a single error. Valasek added another double-double and led the way with 14 kills, hitting .235 and picked up 14 digs. Branson also had a great match with eight kills while hitting .444. Asher added another double-double with 36 assists and 12 digs. She also finished with six kills while hitting .556. Miriam Miller finished with a team high 15 digs.
Hastings had its best night from a hitting standpoint by hitting .330 compared to just .029 for the Tigers.
The Lady Broncos improve to 6-8 (1-4) on the year and will be back in action Saturday Sept. 23 as Briar Cliff comes to town with first serve set for 3:00 pm inside Lynn Farrell Arena.
