Seward, NE – The Hastings College volleyball team lost a four-set match to NAIA No. 4 Concordia on Wednesday night inside Friedrich Arena.
The Lady Broncos dropped the first two sets to the Bulldogs but didn't go down without a fight.
Trailing 13-12 in set three, Hastings would put together a couple of nice runs as it was started by a kill from Ilse Benne followed by a service ace from Madison Navarrete. After the teams traded points Dacey Sealey hammered home a kill followed by a double block from Grace Branson and Amiya Barnes as CUNE called a timeout trailing 17-15.
Concordia scored coming out of the timeout but it was all Hastings after that as Sealey picked up another kill. Branson and Barnes teamed up for another block followed by an attack error and a solo block from Barnes pitted HC 0out to a 21-16 lead. Makenna Asher then went back out to Sealey for the kill and another Bulldog attack error made it 23-16. Benne then picked up the final two kills as Hastings was back in it with a 25-19 set three victory.
Concordia jumped out to an 18-13 lead in set four but Hastings made another run starting with a service error from CUNE and then another ace from Navarrete to make it 18-15. The teams then traded points and then two Concordia attack errors followed by another kill from Sealey had Hastings right back in it at 2019 as the Bulldogs called a timeout. Unfortunately, the teams basically traded points as CUNE avoided the upset by winning set four 25-23.
Concordia finished the match hitting .146 while was held to just .081.
Sealey led the way with a career high 13 kills while hitting .256 as she recorded a double-double with 17 digs while Benne finished with 12 kills. Asher led the way with 39 assists and 11 digs with Miriam Miller leading the team with 25 digs.
Hastings falls to 8-16 (3-12) on the year and will finish the regular season as No. 8 College of Saint Mary comes to town for a Halloween showdown Tuesday Oct. 31 at 7:30 pm inside Lynn Farrell Arena.
