Softball Takes Down SUNY Cobleskill and Northwestern Ohio
Melbourne, FL – The Hastings College softball team opened up its Florida trip with a couple of wins defeating SUNY Cobleskill 7-5 and then defeated Northwestern Ohio 7-3 on Monday.

Melbourne, FL – The Hastings College softball team opened up its Florida trip with a couple of wins defeating SUNY Cobleskill 7-5 and then defeated Northwestern Ohio 7-3 on Monday.
The Lady Broncos got off to a fast start as Sam Skinner picked up a one out single in the first. Then Elana Gerhard blasted a double to the fence in left as Skinner flew around the basepaths to tie the game 1-1. After a strikeout, Lauren Schneider roped a double to right that brought home Gerhard for the 2-1 lead.
Katyn Kappler got the second inning started with an infield single and then three straight doubles from Isabel Tanabe, Skinner and Gerhard brought three runs home as HC held a 5-1 lead over the Fighting Tigers.
SUNY picked up runs in the third and fourth to make it 5-3 but Schneider picked up another double that brought home Lexie Mudloff and Gerhard to go up 7-3.
Kyleigh Boever would give up two more runs in the fifth but then got SUNY to go 1, 2, 3 in the sixth and coaxed a double play and a fly out in the seventh as Hastings came away with the victory.
Gerhard led the way by going 3-for-3 with two RBIs while Schneider went 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Tanabe, Skinner, and Mudloff each had two hits in the win. Hastings finished with 14 hits which is the most thus far this season.
In game two the Lady Broncos fell behind 3-1 before Mudloff led the fourth inning off with a home run to left.
Then the wheels began to fall off for Northwestern Ohio in the fifth as Gerhard picked up a RBI single followed by Schneider getting hit by a pitch to force home another run. Kappler would reach due to another Racer error as Hastings regained the lead 6-3. Mudloff finished up the scoring with a RBI single in the sixth to plate Tanabe.
After Angelina Lockhart gave up those early runs, she shutdown UNOH over the final four innings as HC went 2-0 on day two.
Mudloff went 2-for-4 with two RBIs while Gerhard, Skinner and Tanabe each had two hits. Scheider went 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
The Lady Broncos improve to 8-10 on the year and will be back in action Tuesday Mar. 19 for two more games with the first one against UNOH at noon and then will play Florida Memorial at 1:30 pm down in Melbourne, FL.
