Hastings, NE – The Hastings College softball team lost a pair of games to NAIA No. 11 Northwestern 4-2 and 9-0 (5 innings) on Saturday afternoon out at the Smith Softball Complex.
The Lady Broncos went toe-to-toe with the top team in the Great Plains Athletic Conference in game one and certainly had their chances to pull off the potential upset.
The Red Raiders did jump out to the early 2-0 lead but Kyleigh Boever would not let the game slip away as the HC offense began to chip away.
In the fourth inning Lauren Schneider started the frame with a single and advanced to third due to an error. Two batters later Schneider scored on the Macie Mays pop out to shallow left field to make it 2-1.
Northwestern picked up another run in the sixth and had the bases loaded but Boever got Ashtyn Billings to strikeout to end the threat.
Hastings would get another lead-off single from Schneider and then following a walk and a Mays single, HC had the bases loaded with just one out. Taylor Stuhr then coaxed a walk to make it 3-2 and there was still just one out. But a fly out and a strikeout would end the threat as Hastings would leave the bases loaded. The Lady Broncos would go down in order in the seventh losing game one 4-2.
Schneider led the way going 2-for-3 in the game one loss.
The Red Raiders then showed why they only have two losses on the year winning game two 9-0 in five innings as Hastings managed just three hits.
Hastings is now 14-20 (2-10) on the year and will be back in action Wednesday Apr. 17 as College of Saint Mary comes to town with first pitch set for 4:00 pm out at the Smith Softball Complex.
