Sioux City, IA – The Hastings College softball team had its eight-game winning streak come to a close by dropping game one 2-1 to Morningside and then lost game two 6-3 on Thursday evening.
Kyleigh Boever took to the mound in game one and kept the Mustang bats in check scattering 10 hits over 7.1 innings of work but ended up with the loss as Morningside walked things off in the eighth with a single to center.
After Morningside took the lead in the fourth, HC came back in the fifth as Nicole Halsey got things started with a one out single. Isabel Tanabe backed that up with a single to right and then Sam Skinner loaded the bases with a single to left. Elana Gerhard brought home Halsey with a groundout to second to tie the game at 1-1.
Unfortunately for the Lady Broncos, they would go down in order over the next three innings as the Mustangs escaped with the 2-1 victory.
Skinner led the way at the plate going 2-for-3.
Game two saw MU open up a 3-0 lead before HC came back in the fourth by putting up a crooked number to tie the game.
Gerhard led things off by reaching first due to an error. Lexie Mudloff then doubled to left center to put runners in scoring position. Lauren Schneider then roped a two RBI double to right center to make it a 3-2 ball game. Macie Mays then singled home Schneider to tie the game 3-3.
Morningside would go back to work bringing home three runs of its own in the bottom of the fourth to go up 6-3.
The Lady Broncos had opportunities in the fifth and sixth but couldn't get the clutch hit to close the gap and would end up losing game two 6-3.
Schneider led the way by going 2-for-4 with two RBIs while Mays went 2-for-3 with a run driven in.
Hastings falls to 12-12 (0-2) on the year and will be back in action Saturday Mar. 30 hitting the road to take on NAIA No. 13 Midland with first pitch set for 1:00 pm in Fremont, NE.
