Hastings, NE – The Hastings College softball team wrapped up the 2024 season with a 7-3 win and 8-5 loss to Briar Cliff on Senior Day out at the Smith Softball Complex on Saturday afternoon.
Kyleigh Boever picked up four strikeouts in the first two innings and then the senior long ball came into effect in the bottom of the second. Macie Mays led the inning off with a single to right and then Taylor Stuhr blasted a home run over the left field fence to go up 2-0. Two batters later Boever helped herself with a moon shot over the left center field fence to go up 3-0. The Lady Broncos then made it 4-0 in the third with a Mays RBI single before the Chargers got back into the game with an Autumn Soter 3-Run home run in the fifth to make it 4-3.
HC countered in the bottom half of the inning as Lauren Schneider led the inning off with a double and then scored on the Lexie Mudloff double to make it 5-3. Hastings then made it 6-3 when Mudloff scored on a wild pitch followed by a sac fly off the bat of Stuhr to plate Mays to go up 7-3.
Boever then mowed through the BCU offense sitting down the next six batters she faced to end her career in the win column. She went 7.0 innings giving up three runs on six hits while fanning seven.
Schneider was a perfect 3-for-3 in game one with two runs scored while Stuhr led the way going 1-for-3 with three RBIs. Mays went 2-for-3 with a RBI and two runs scored.
The Chargers were able to take advantage of some defensive miscues by the Lady Broncos to build an early 5-1 lead as the lone Hastings run came off the solo shot from Mays in the second.
Hastings then made things interesting in the bottom of the sixth as HC loaded the bases and then Sam Skinner came through with the clutch two out 2 RBI single to center to make it 5-4 but the threat ended with a strikeout.
BCU then extended the lead with three more runs in the top of the seventh and would hold on for the 8-5 win to finish the season with a split.
Skinner and Mays led the way in game two going 3-for-4 with two RBIs each while Isabel Tanabe and Schneider each had two hits in the loss.
Hastings finishes the season 16-28 (4-18).
