Yankton, SD – The Hastings College softball team dropped two games on the road at Mount Marty 8-0 and 13-5 on Tuesday afternoon.
In game one the Lady Broncos could not get the bats going coming away with just five hits in the shutout loss to the Lancers.
In game two, Hastings would fall behind 7-0 after one inning of play but battled back in the second and third innings.
The second inning would be kept alive when Isabel Tanabe reached first via an error with two outs that loaded the bases. Sam Skinner made that hurt with a two RBI single to center to make it 7-2. Then Lauren Schneider roped a RBI double to plate Tanabe to make it 7-3.
MMU picked up a run in the bottom half of the inning but the HC bats went back to work as Katyn Kappler picked up a RBI sac fly and Tanabe plated Macie Mays with a double to center to make it 8-5.
Unfortunately that would be all the runs Hastings would score as the Lancers plated five more to pick up back-to-back run rule victories over the Lady Broncos.
Tanabe led the way by going 2-for-3 with a RBI while Mays was also 2-for-3 in the game two loss.
Hastings falls to 13-17 (1-7) on the year and will be back in action Friday Apr. 12 as Dordt comes to town for two games with first pitch set for 4:00 pm out at the Smith Softball Complex.
