Women's Tennis Drops Match at Kansas Wesleyan

Hastings had a couple of chances to take the doubles point, as juniors Josline Carter and Victoria Harris rallied at #1 doubles to force a tiebreak and had a match point, but lost 9-7 in the end. At #3 doubles, senior Paige Willcoxon and sophomore Kayleigh Cetak also trailed by a break in the set before evening it up at five, eventually losing 7-5. The Coyotes won the #2 doubles, 6-0, to sweep the doubles point and take a 1-0 lead.
Harris got Hastings on the board with a 6-3, 6-4 win at #2 singles, but Kansas Wesleyan went up 2-1, as Carter lost at #1 singles in a competitive 6-4, 7-5 match. After the Coyotes won at #3 singles, sophomore Cara Ansbach bounced back from a 6-3 loss in set one by winning the second set, 6-4, and the third set super-tiebreak, 12-10.
Trailing 3-2 in the match, sophomore Lexi Benson tied up the second set at five of #5 singles following a 6-1 first set loss, but the Coyotes won the next two games to clinch the win. Kansas Wesleyan also won at #6 singles by a score of 6-4, 6-4.
Up next, Hastings will travel to Arizona to compete against Mesa Community College and Arizona Christian on Saturday, Feb. 28, starting at 9am.
